5 Ways to Stay Productive While You Search for a Job

When you’re going through the job search process it can be easy to feel anything but productive in terms of results. But, if you use our tips from CareerSparx founder Mario Schulzke, “5 Ways to Stay Productive While You Search for a Job,” as featured on EmploymentBlawg.com, you may just find it a little easier to shake that idle feeling. Here’s a preview:

1) Set Reasonable Goals

Break your big goals down into smaller steps. We like to call those achievable chunks. It’s easier to see forward progression this way.

2) Keep Track of Your Progress

Maintain a list of your goals and the steps you’re taking to get you there. This will help you see the momentum you’re gaining in your search.

3) Study and Volunteer

You’re never a burden on anyone if you work for free. And this way you can learn (and gain) some valuable skills for your resume.

4) Continue to Reach Out to Your Network

The squeaky wheel gets the grease, but make sure you add value to those in your network as well. Forward along articles that might be of interest to your contacts, and don’t forget to check in. You never know when your perfect job could pop on someone else’s computer screen.

5) Consider New Avenues You Might Not Already Have Pursued

Are you unfamiliar with Twitter? Teach yourself and think about how it could benefit your career search. Are you a LinkedIn newbie with a bare bones profile? Consider beefing that up as well.
